Summer storms are plaguing the southern end of the Shenandoah Valley on a HOT July afternoon. Making a mad dash through town, NS 304 sprints through the town of Buena Vista, Virginia, splitting the N&W CPL's at the north end of the siding aptly named control point "Buena Vista" while a heavy thunderstorm rolls over the Blue Ridge above. NS's road locals 304, and 305 were not long for this world, along with the vintage N&W signals at Buena Vista. By January of the next year, the trains were abolished, and the signals replaced by modern infrastructure seen staged trackside in this photo.
