Sound From The Rear. Amtrak 291 (Ethan Allen Express) was running about an hour behind schedule on the afternoon of Sunday, August 3, 2025, when it passed through Oscawana Island in Croton-On-Hudson, New York, improving the light for the photographers. With P42C AMTK 9700 leading, the train was fairly quiet on the approach and noisy in the rear. This P42C, the only one operating on Amtrak at present, is a rebuild of P42DC AMTK 184. During this process, the prime mover was deactivated and the locomotive was painted and renumbered, essentially turning it into a cab car version of a locomotive.
