Conrail, Southern Style: Conrail MA1 heads west back to its home base, Manville Yard, on Conrail Lehigh Line Track #2. NS 5801 was the first GP38-3 rebuild for Norfolk Southern, having been rebuilt from GP50 NS 7070 (formerly SOU 7070) in February 2004. This locomotive was originally set up for being primarily used in long hood operation, and its configuration here hearkens back to its roots. The engine still features its original P5 horn. As time goes by, the typical locomotive pool provided to Conrail Shared Assets from Norfolk Southern has changed due to the aging of equipment. As a result, Norfolk Southern has begun introducing the GP38-3 rebuilds into the pool.
