The 8.991-kilometer-long 80-centimeter narrow-gauge Abt system cog railway from Capolago on Lake Lugano (294 meters above sea level) to Generoso Vetta at 1,592 meters above sea level was opened in 1890. The steam locomotive H 2/3 # 2, built in 1890 by SLM in Winterthur for the Ferrovia Monte Generoso (FMG), is on its descent below the summit with passenger car B # 2, which was built in 1890 by SIG in Neuhausen as car B4 # 14. The locomotive with the Riggenbach counterpressure brake keeps the train at a maximum speed of 9 km/h. This is the train's first public journey since both vehicles were overhauled and refurbished by Martin Horath in Goldau. Many of the passengers are on a three-day trip with ZRT. The steam locomotive was taken out of service in 1956 and was then displayed as a monument in Capolago until 1984. The steam train will run on four days in July and August this year.
