The 8.991-kilometer-long 80-centimeter narrow-gauge cog railway from Capolago on Lake Lugano (294 meters above sea level) to Generoso Vetta at 1,592 meters above sea level was opened in 1890. The steam locomotive H 2/3 # 2, built in 1890 by SLM in Winterthur for Ferrovia Monte Generoso (FMG), recently reached the mountain station with passenger car B # 2 (SIG 1890). This was the first public mountain trip after the locomotive and car were overhauled and refurbished by Martin Horath in Goldau.
