On June 22, 2008 Amtrak detoured both Coast Starlights through Tehachapi in order to work around a bridge replacement project on the Coast Line. For the southbound train #11, I moved to the same hill/spot I had shot from my very first trip to Tehachapi, in Walong in 1989.
Running daily between Seattle and Los Angeles, this train offers running alongside the Pacific Ocean and through the Cascade Mountains. It has been one of Amtrak's long-distance success stories.
