Bound for Arcade. Just over a mile northeast of Arcade, NY, the Arcade & Attica Railroad's 105-year-old, Alco Consolidation #18 charges south at track speed, heading back to the Arcade Depot with a 3-car passenger special. The train is pictured here passing the industrial complex at Creekside Millwork.
This image was captured in May of 2025 during a photo shoot on New York's Arcade & Attica Railroad, organized by Dynamo Productions. The Arcade & Attica is currently New York State's only steam tourist railroad and has been offering steam excursions off and on since the early 1960s. With relatives living in the upstate City of Watertown in the 60s, I vividly recall traveling with my family in the Empire State as a little kid and seeing advertising brochures for this railroad at many tourist spots. Unfortunately, our travels never took us far enough west to visit this operation. The Dynamo photo shoot was my first opportunity to see this railroad, literally 60 years later. Fortunately, the line is still in business, still operating as a local freight carrier and still running weekend tourist excursions with steam locomotives. Interestingly, they are not only running the same equipment, but are also featuring the same, very unique, orange and black livery that I saw as a kid on those tourist flyers.
