Remarks & Notes
"A Front Row Seat to Railroad Magic and Ingenuity"

On March 24, 2025, my son, Greg, watches as Amtrak Acela Train 2168, with its pantograph fully raised, crosses the uniquely wire-free Mianus River Railroad Bridge (CP 230) on the Metro-North Railroad (CTDOT) New Haven Line in Cos Cob, Connecticut. The Mianus River Bridge, a bascule-type movable span, is one of the only electrified railroad bridges in the country without overhead wire. On either end of the movable span, the catenary gradually rises in height, allowing a train’s pantograph to fully extend for the gap and "catch" the wire again after crossing.
