Going to The Home Opener. On March 27, 2025, MTA NYCT Subway/New York Transit Museum operated both a vintage set of IRT Lo-Vs and 1960's era cars for Opening Day. Continuing a long standing tradition, the train brings passengers from 42 Street-Grand Central to 161 Street-Yankee Stadium for no additional fare. One train, the green Lo-Vs, is from 1917, older than original Yankee Stadium itself. The other train, a version of the “Train Of Many Colors”, is from the early 1960s, and is composed of R-33/R-36 car types in various paint schemes. This annual tradition always draws a significant crowd in addition to the baseball fans attending the game. After leaving 207 Street Yard, R-33S 9308 leads the deadhead consist in its 1964 World's Fair paint on the way to the Nostalgia Ride, seen passing through the cavernous 168 Street Station in upper Manhattan. Though not stopping, the car is displaying an appropriate vintage "9/South Ferry" destination, a throwback to 1989 to 2005 when the 1 and 9 operated 'skip stop' service during rush hour.
