Down The Main Street. After some switching at KA Steel (Olin Chemical), the Millsdale Oil Local, L545, crawls through historic Downtown Lemont due to PTC restrictions up to Flagstone while on their way to Millsdale. L545 is a nighttime local, so its switching operations don’t interfere with daylight Metra and Amtrak traffic, and operates out of Glenn Yard Sunday through Friday nights. It services many oil refinery’s along the I&M Canal between Chicago and Joliet, and one just south of Joliet along the BNSF Chillicothe Subdivision at Millsdale. A duo of former Illinois Central GP40R’s guide the nights train south, numbers 3138 and 3106, with the 3138 being one of a handful that still wears its Illinois Central livery, many years after Canadian National acquired the Illinois Central in 1999.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
Photographs where trains and people mix, weather it's street running, plant switching or carrying a unit grain train out of an elevator, it will be put here.
