Remarks & Notes
The ALP-44M Survivor. The 12 ALP44Ms ([A]merican [L]ocomotive [P]assenger [4]-Axle, [4].32 MW-[M]icrosporcessor), out of the total 32 motor ALP-44 order, were received in 1996 and retired in 2011. Designed to be an upgrade on the original design, this supplemental order was delivered to enhance the fleet for Midtown Direct service.

The first ALP-44 was delivered in 1990 by ABB, and by the late 2000s, the railroad was deciding about whether to rebuild the fleet, ultimately deciding to store them instead and order more ALP-46As. NJ Transit 4424, pictured here on very short time at Red Bank, New Jersey on May 6, 2010, was donated to the United Railroad Historical Society in the summer of 2023 and moved to Boonton, New Jersey, and prospects are bleak for what remains of the other 31. The only other ALP-44, SEPTA/SPAX 2308, was withdrawn from passenger service 2018.
