Remarks & Notes
Redbirds Ride On. On the the night of Friday, March 22, 2024, Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA NYCT Subway R-33S 9340 (St. Louis Car Company, 1963) was at the north end of a work motor transfer from 239 Street Yard to 207 Street when it paused at 96 Street-Broadway on the 1 Line to change ends. This car has been serving the subway for over 60 years, split about 2/3 for revenue and 1/3 non-revenue service, which includes work and refuse trains. The iconic "redbird" color was first applied in the mid-1980s as part of the graffiti free program, and became synonymous with the return of the system's state of good repair. Several examples are preserved in the New York Transit Museum collection, including 9310, a sister to this car, which is on display at the former Court Street station in Brooklyn, New York. The cars were coupled to a 5-car set of R-62 cars for the move.
