| It is 7.05 a.m. when the Rhaetian Railway's snow blower from Pontresina arrives in Alp Grüm at 2091 meters above sea level. The crew set off before 5 a.m. to clear the snow from the Bernina line before the first train departs. In the previous 24 hours, around 30 cm of snow had fallen in the area around the pass. The rising sun illuminates the 3032-metre-high Sassal Masone in the background. The photographer was ready about 3/4 of an hour beforehand, as the arrival of the snow blower composition is unpredictable. The remote controlled "Schalke" diesel locomotive Gmf 234 # 03 pushes the "Zaugg" snow blower Xrot mt # 95404 as it enters track 2.
