The Winchester & Western Railway’s “Sandman” parallels Back Creek as it slowly works its way east from Gore, VA to Winchester, VA through Gainesboro. The train has just picked up loads from the sand mine in Gore and is slowly meandering its way through the countryside east to Winchester. Sadly, this train’s days are numbered as Covia who operates the plant announced that the mine will be idled indefinitely by February 29th.
