Remarks & Notes

A westbound freight accelerates out of Carothers Tunnel and past the CPLs that so defined former B&O territory at one time. Carothers is the westernmost of four tunnels that were part of the Magnolia Cutoff which supplemented and eventually eliminated a circuitous route along the Potomac River.
