Because of a meet with a northbound freight (BNSF H-BARPAS1-22A), BNSF's V-RICWAT4-22A sits in Caliente, in the lower reaches of southern California's Tehachapi Mountains (at 1291-feet, and this is where the steeper 2% grade begins). The northbound has passed, but this vehicle train continues to sit thanks to a train ahead of it, UP's MRVLA-22 (led by UP SD70ACe 9085), that is having some issues getting moving on UP Mojave Sub's steep grades across these mountains. But move it will, and then BNSF ES44DCs 7905, 7224 and 7906 will continue their trip from Richmond CA to Watson CA. Once moving, the train will round the horseshoe curve just ahead and about a mile later will pass by on the higher track in the background, allowing a view of the train's other side. I've been to the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, as well, but I think this is a more impressive – and more photogenic – horseshoe curve! (Caliente, California – April 23, 2023)
