Southern RY 4501, owned by the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, is northbound at High Point NC on this sunny day. Notice one of the crew members above the cab roof. At this point in time the engine did not have a powered coal auger and was hand fired. Coal had to be shoveled down from the tender all day long!
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
