Dual-Powered Dual-Mode Testing. Deliveries of Bombardier ALP45-DPs to NJ Transit were still underway when NJTR 4501 was paired up with PL42AC 4009 (ALSTOM) to lead 4 semi-retired Comet IIIs (5511/5517/5507/5520, Bombardier) and Comet V Cab Car 6053 (Alstom) for testing across the system. The first of these dual mode locomotives (overhead electric and diesel powered) was unveiled on May 11, 2011, and shortly thereafter the first units of the same order also started arriving in Montreal, Quebec for EXO. On December 14, 2011, the train was assigned to make a run up the Southern Tier/Port Jervis Line to the MTA Metro-North Railroad station in Port Jervis, New York. The unusual consist is seen passing the since deactivated former Erie Railroad 87-2 "slingshot"searchlight signal with the original Erie Station (now Erie Hotel & Restaurant) in the background. In the current day, Alstom has purchased Bombardier creating one company and the ALP45-DP and subsequently produced ALP45-DPAs can be seen operating on any of NJ Transit's heavy rail commuter lines.
