Train 7, Phase 7. On the afternoon October 3, 2022, the Amtrak Empire Builder departed Chicago Union Station with AMTK 310 (Phase VII, ALC-42, Siemens) leading AMTK 11 (Phase V, P42DC, GE) and a 9-car train through CP Morgan neat North Racine Avenue in Chicago, Illinois with the Sears (some call it Willis) Tower in the background. The ALC42s have been making their way into the pool for the Chicago based long distance runs, and this mixed power may be a common sight for the near future. In Spokane, Washington, the train will split in two and one engine will lead to Seattle, Washington while the other part goes to Portland, Oregon.
