Two veteran high hood locomotives sit at Grand Junction at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga. Former Southern Railway GP30 #2594 is nearest us. She was built in 1963. In 1982, she became a Norfolk Southern unit by the merger of Southern and Norfolk & Western Railway. NS eventually sold her to the Hartwell Railroad in Georgia. That railroad later donated her to the Southeastern Railroad Museum. She now is a Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum motor.

Beside her is a GP7 with an unusual history of her own. She was built in 1950 as Nashville Chattanooga & St Louis GP7 #710. She then went to the Luisville & Nashvuille Railroad as #1710 and finally to Amtrak #772. |
