Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe GP 730 was built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division in May 1956, with a high short-hood and an attractive black and silver “Zebra Stripe” paint scheme. It was later renumbered ATSF 2930, and was repainted into the railroad’s new (as of 1959) blue and yellow paint scheme. In February 1980 it was rebuilt into a GP9u, and received a chopped-nose and a new squared-roof cab, and lost its dynamic brakes in the process as well. It was then numbered ATSF 2299.
