Remarks & Notes |
Railroad ferries were once commonplace on the Great Lakes. Here we see Ann Arbor's "City of Green Bay" entering the Elberta/Frankfort, MI harbor with a load of freight cars. A colorful yard of cars is waiting to be loaded once the boat is docked. The City of G.B. was built as the Wabash in 1927 and scrapped in 1974. You can still ride the Badger, the last of these ferries operating, but railroad freight is no longer carried. John Ingles Kodachrome from my collection. |
