Originally called Union Station, the Union Pacific station was built in 1908-1908, and served UP passenger trains until the end of UP passenger operations on May 1, 1971. Amtrak used this station from 1977 until 1986, when they relocated to the former Rio Grande station nearby. This impressive edifice still features a beautiful neon Union Pacific sign on its eastern face, above the street entrance – although it would be nice if they could repair its defective tubes. Passing the station this evening is Utah Transit Agency S70 LRV 1124, turning east on the system’s Green Line as it heads to West Valley. (Salt Lake City, Utah – March 13, 2015)
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
