On the final run before going down for it's boiler rebuild, 6988 spent the weekend hauling freight between Newton and South Amana. Here, it is seen on Saturday morning pulling the water tender, tool car, two P70 coaches for the crew, and 23 empty sand cars (with no diesel assist) eastbound on the Newton subdivision, passing through the massive wind farm between Malcolm and Grinnell. Even when the blades and shafts of a wind turbine show up on trains, you never really get a sense of how big these things are until you see a train next to one. The juxtaposition between the modern, clean power from wind and the centuries old power from coal and steam is certainly one to be marveled over.
