Following the December 1982 merger of the Missouri Pacific and Western Pacific into the Union Pacific in 1982, MoPac’s large fleet of 281 GP38-2s was flung over the entire UP system. On August 21, 1985, Missouri Pacific GP38-2 2022 (ex-MP 871) was found in Ontario, California, still in MP Jenks Blue. In fact, from what I can tell, this engine was never renumbered or repainted into the UP system before being sold to Helm Leasing before the end of the Eighties.
