Cogwheel railcars Bhe 1/2 # 21 and # 22 of the Pilatus Bahnen, the two oldest of the series built in 1937, are running up the mountain over the Mattalp, between Aemsigen crossing station and Pilatus Kulm. On this railway, several railcars (up to 5) are following each other on sight distance, depending on the number of passengers to be transported. Just here, the grade is 19.0 %, less then half of the maximum, which is 48 %, enabled by the unique rack system invented by engineer Eduard Locher.
