"Avelia Liberty at Westchester Avenue"
Amtrak's Alstom Avelia Liberty (Acela 21) heads east under the abandoned NYW&B Westchester Ave Station on Amtrak's Hell Gate Line. On September 28th, 2020 the trainset made it's first run through the Bronx borough of New York City while on its way to Boston for additional testing. Westchester Ave Station was designed by Cass Gilbert & completed using terra cotta detailing in 1908. Service ceased in 1937, but due to the way the station was constructed, it still remains today, suspended over Amtrak's Hell Gate Line which is a small section of the Northeast Corridor.
The Northeast Corridor cuts through four New York counties on its brief stretch to the Connecticut Line east of Port Chester. There are several photo opportunities along the route.
