Union Pacific’s Denver to Grand Junction manifest freight crosses the fill over South Draw as it exits Tunnel 16 east of Crescent, Colorado, on the morning of March 30, 2002. Lead locomotive EMD SD9043MAC No. 8162 is at the location of the east portal of old Tunnel 17 that collapsed during construction. The tunnel was bypassed by a shoe fly around the obstruction until removal of the caved in tunnel and excavation of a new cut allowed the track to be laid in its surveyed location.
