When the old beast is awakened, it coughs up a bit of carbon soot as it is once again coaxed back to life on September 16, 2010. This venerable old switcher, Ray-Carroll NW2 3151, is assigned to an ethanol facility in Carrollton, Missouri. This locomotive rolled out of Electro-Motive Corporation’s factory in August 1939 as Santa Fe 2359. It was later renumbered Santa Fe 2409 and was eventually sold to the Elgin Joliet & Eastern as their 451. Photographed on private property with permission and full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
