The Black Diamond passes into history. A number of my father's photos of the last days of LV passenger service appeared in Lehigh Valley 3 In Color, but here is one that they didn't use. PA-1s 608 and 606 have cut-off the last Black Diamond and have moved into the clear on the short track used solely for the engine change. In the background, PRR GG1 4887 leads the train toward the connecting track to the PRR and the train's final destination, New York Penn Station. All LV passenger service ended in February 1961, but passenger trains did return to the LV and this connection to the PRR in 1967 in the form of commuter trains between the new LV connection to the CNJ at Aldene and Newark Penn Station, which did not require an engine change.
