It's the afternoon hours in downtown Birmingham, and CSX Q689-29 (Birmingham,AL-Waycross,GA) has come around the curve, and clear the 24th St Block (MP-391.1 24th St.) on the Boyles Terminal. Running at 20 mph the southbound freight is about to cross the NS AGS South-End at 14th St. heading toward Hoover, AL. Once at Hoover, Q689 will get on the Lineville Sub and run east on it trek for Waycross, GA. Magic City is still a booming railroad, and industrial town, that truly takes pride in it's enriching heritage, note the top domes, and stack of the old Sloss Furnaces that tower over the east side Birmingham industrial district which is now part of a National Historic Landmark, of Birmingham's past. Since this photo was taken Birmingham is going through a renaissance where district are coming back to life with Museum's and Venues where tourist, and locals can come and visit.
