Arizona Divide Kodachrome(s) An eastbound Santa Fe piggyback train, with six reefers up front, flies through Bellemont, Arizona, while crossing the Arizona Divide on July 7, 1986. Powering the train is EMD SD45-2 No. 7221, followed by a SD45, SD45B and SD40-2, with the first two units painted in the “Kodachrome” colors of the aborted merger with Southern Pacific.
The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
