Remarks & Notes |
A loaded sand train eases down the steep Rutledge Hill into Ottumwa. Coming down this 1.8% hill can be a challenge, especially when MofW wants walking speed due to a pull apart. I was impressed how easy the engineer made it look. The train drops down into the Des Monies River Valley very quickly from Rutledge and then crosses the BNSF Ottumwa Sub at the bottom, which is about 1/2 mile in front of the train. This is the distant signal for the diamond the train is passing. Then a crew change in about 2 miles from here, and onto KC with the next crew. |
