Here is one of the two cars that makes up a Norfolk Southern track geometry train. This unit has an interesting history. It was first a Norfolk and Western SD35. The N&W converted it to a road slug, and NS would later convert the slug into its current configuration. It is coupled to companion research car NS 33 (originally built as a Union Pacific coach), and both are being pulled on this day by NS SD40-2 6082. The train (NS U48) is briefly stopped at the wye in Appalachia, VA.
