The Union Pacific Wendover Local runs every day except Sunday to service the many mineral extraction, ore loadouts and hazardous waste facilities on the shore of the Great Salt Lake and on the Bonneville Salt Flats west of the lake. The local is based out of North Yard in Salt Lake and the crew works west one day, overnites in Wendover, and then returns east to Salt Lake the next day. In the early 2000’s the power was usually a pair of SD60M’s, then the SD40N's took over but when I saw the local a couple of weeks ago it was powered by a pair of SD70M's.. The LUE50, Wendover Local, is seen here working tank cars loaded with brine water at the Intrepid Potash facility at Blair, just east of Wendover, Utah.
