Thank goodness for railway museums and their ability to keep and show locomotives that would otherwise be lost to the scrappers torch. SP 1518, the first SD7 built, pulls a short freight at Diesel Days at the Illinois RR Museum in Union, IL in July of 2009. This unit was originally EMD demonstrator 990.
The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
