Remarks & Notes |
4612 is an example of a PCC streetcar. These were designed under the direction of the Electric Railway President's Conference Committee (PCC) in an attempt by 25 US and Canadian transit companies to develop an improved and standardized streetcar. In spite of the many jokes about nothing good ever comes out of a committee, in this case these cars were very successful with over 5000 built for the US and Canadian market and after WWII other parts of the world where many are still in service. Edmonton never actually used any of these cars as it abandoned streetcars in favour of buses. This car was used in Toronto until 1995 after which it was generously donated to ERRS. |
