So Clean You Could Eat Off the Floor – But We Opted Not To
Washington State Department of Transportation 1402, a Siemens SC-44 diesel-electric passenger locomotive, rolled out of the factory 4 days earlier and is deadheading to Colorado (along with WDTX 1403) for testing, and as a result the 4400-horsepower Cummins 16 cylinder QSK95 4-stroke high speed diesel engine is still in pristine condition. As their new owner has not yet accepted these new locomotives, they are traveling temporarily using Siemens' reporting mark SIIX. This diesel engine rides upon cushioned supports, and with no metal-to-metal contact, the locomotive is extremely quiet when operating. (If the diesel engine is replaced, 24 hours must be allowed for the engine to seat properly, or else the Tier 4 after-treatment equipment above it will be too high to allow the locomotive’s roof to be installed.) Photographed on railroad property with permission and full PPE.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
Generally speaking, shots where less than a full engine is shown. But I want to feature details, not half engines or full cabs, and definitely not full nose shots. Just shots where someone has zoomed in with purpose.
