One of the five ex-PRR E8s that Amtrak rebuilt with HEP capability for use on Northeast Corridor Amfleet consists leads two-car train 153, the Beacon Hill, out of South Station. This was a Boston-New Haven local that called at all stations en route including the now-discontinued Amtrak stops at East Greenwich, Wickford Jct., and Shannock, Rhode Island.
Once treated like a backwater with decrepit locomotives, cars and track, Massachusetts has become a star in the Amtrak constellation with electrification to Boston, service to Maine and an upgraded Connecticut Valley line.
