It's the end of an era today at CP Curry on the NS Kansas City District. This is NS Train 285, which turned out to be the last train to pass by here governed by the classic Wabash searchlight signals.
The arriving signal gang stirring up the dust to the left of the frame unceremoniously plucked the old US&S lights out of the ground a couple hours later.
By this afternoon, the new Safetrans were turned, lit, and providing signal indication for Norfolk Southern freights. In an unsettling interpretation of an old slogan: the fallen 'flag' that installed these veteran searchlights would be a little harder to 'follow'.
