Ringed in gold. Golden aspens provide a natural frame for Work Extra 463 West as she leaves Toltec Gorge behind, headed for Osier with all of the line's heavy MOW machinery in tow.
On October 3rd of 2015, the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad organized a Maintenance of Way Photo Charter, to give the membership and interested photographers a chance to see some of the recently restored MOW equipment in action out on the rails. A big thank you is due to Conductor Alan Loomis, who not only found some great spots for us to photograph this train, but also for his incredible luck in timing the runbys such that the in-and-out sun pretty much was out when we needed it!
The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad are all that remains of the legendary Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge system. Here you'll find some of my favorites from these two beautiful railways.
