A coal train makes its way south on the Northeast Corridor as it crosses the Bush River at Edgewood, Maryland. Less than nine months later, a catastrophic head-on collision that killed 14 would occur five miles south at the Gunpowder River bridge at Chase, and would make Ricky Gates a household name. That incident became the catalyst to almost eradicate freight from the corridor.
