On a crystal clear day in the middle of October, a trio of CSX GE's lead the last southbound coal train on the rails of the former Clinchfield Railroad. That morning, October 15th 2015, 300 people were affected by a CSX decision to downsize operations in Erwin and the former Clinchfield. As a result, St. Paul to McClure would be taken out of service, i.e. meaning this was the last coal train to run the entire Clinchfield Railroad from Elkhorn City to Spartanburg. Sad times for sure, be sure to remember all of the Clinchfield Employees.
