In 1995, a significant donation to the Monticello Railway Museum came along with a request to restore a steam engine to service. Several candidates were reviewed but in the end, it was the Museum's Southern consolidation that was chosen. During the restoration of this beloved engine, it was determined one significant part would need to be replaced. That "part" is seen here above. It was SOU #401's original 1907 Baldwin built boiler! The new boiler was built in St Louis, MO by Boiler-Continental Fabricators, Inc. and delivered to the Museum in June of 2005. Just over five years later, along with a new tender, SOU #401 returned to steam in September of 2010. This left the Museum with quite an interesting load for display in the yard!
