A late summer afternoon finds Austin Area Terminal Railroad (AUAR) Gandy Turn heading north from McNeil, crossing Highway 171 under the conductor's protection because gates have just been installed but not yet activated. EconoRail would not operate the AUAR much longer past this photo, and the Capitol Metro commuter rail (which drove the gate installation in part) would soon affect freight operations, driving them to nighttime hours.
