Two weeks after this photo was taken, the Mare Island Rail Service (a subsidiary of Tri-City & Olympia Railroad) ceased operations on Mare Island when their operating contract was cancelled. Shown here, MIRS 113 backs through a maze of shuttered buildings en route to its evening tie down.
