Tough winter day on the Kyle—22 “Whoa,… whoa,… WHOA!,” rings out over the scanner as we pass the Kyle plow extra going through Kanorado, Kansas, on January 2, 2007. I look back to see plow MWK 06 lean over to its left, digging up white snow and then brown earth, with lead SD45T-2 following along. The chase of the plow extra quickly ended, just before reaching the Colorado border, and fortunately, no one was injured. This photo was taken just moments after the derailment; likely cause—ice buildup on a road crossing. Also note mainline rails almost covered by snow in the foreground.
