With Denver Union Station seemingly peeking into the trainshed, California Zephyr dome-observation “Silver Solarium” is seen on Track 5 on the warm Colorado night of October 15, 2014. This Burlington car, along with former Pennsylvania 10-6 sleeper “Silver Rapids” (PRR’s contribution to the “Zephyr pool” of sleepers) saw many visits to Denver Union Station before, but not under this futuristic-looking trainshed! The 1881-built station underwent a multi-year renovation, with trains moving back to Union Station on February 28, 2014, and a grand opening of the facilities on May 9, 2014, making it a modern transportation hub, with the building now hosting a 110-room hotel, shops and restaurants, as well as Amtrak functions.
