I'm not sure exactly what caused this incident, but judging by the damage I would say there was some rough train handling involved. Huron & Eastern's daily northbound road freight 701 was almost to Wenona Yard when the coupler shaft on this covered hopper snapped off causing it to derail. Lucky for the clean up crew, the derailment happened on the grade crossing of Marquette St. where it could easily be unloaded by truck. This was taken the day after the derailment and shows the end of the car that faced the front of the train. I believe the site was cleared the following day and business continued as normal.
