It wasn't looking good as BNSF train L-CAL1161-03F (the Cadiz Local) approached from the west as train Q-NYCLAC1-01A was speeding westward in Newberry Springs, California, on February 3rd, 2014. In fact, it was looking so bad that every railfan bailed on this location and sped off. But just as the Cadiz Turn cleared the grade crossing, the Pennsy Heritage unit on the point of the westbound popped out from behind the eastbound. Not the shot I had planned, but the local added an element I wasn't expecting. And I didn't have to speed off to get a shot, either. (Full disclosure: I sped off right after this.)
